Case closing
Once the cartons are formed and filled, the next step is closing them. A carton closer is a machine that seals the upper or lower side of a filled carton using either self adhesive tape or hot melt glue.
Carton closers are versatile machines and are designed for the specific needs of the user. They are a meaningful part of the packaging line since they are the last stage before the packed product is ready for shipment or storage.
The closing means are:
- Self adhesive tape: the most common ones.
- Hot melt glue: this glue forms a strong and permanent bond with the cardboard and is little affected by atmospheric conditions of temperature, light and humidity.
Carton sealing machines may be grouped into these categories:
- Uniform size: they process only one size of carton boxes per batch. The machine may be adjusted to different sizes within limit parameters in height and width for other production batches.
- Random sizes: the machine adjusts itself automatically to different carton widths and heights within the same production batch.
- Automatic sealers: they don't require an operator for the upper flaps of the cartons.
- Semiautomatic sealers: they need an operator to fold the upper flaps of the cartons
These categories are intermixed: automatic uniform size sealers, semiautomatic random size and so on.
